Guangxi Tour Day 7 and 8

On day 7, we had breakfast at Merryland resort before we set off for Nanning. It was the best breakfast i had over the span of 7 days as it was western style instead of the typical 'baos'. soyabean milk, oily noodles or 'yu tiao' that they give us over there. After the hearty breakfast, we checked out of the resort and travelled 8 hours from Xing An back to Nanning.

On the way, we stopped by an outlet selling silk products. It was one of the tourist traps that you will encounter if you are with a tour group.


The "Imperial Robe" wore by the Qing Dynasty Emperor . The silk threads spun from the cocoons of rare silkworms that produced coloured silk. Anyway its just for decorative purposes only.

By the time we reached Nanning, it was already 8 pm at night and most of the shops closed around 10:30 or 11pm.

So we immediately took a cab to this main shopping district which was a 5 min cab ride from our hotel. Dont be deceived by the busy streets and glittery decorations outside the malls. The interior of the malls is what you see 15 years ago in our local shopping malls.

I had a chance to visit a Walmart over there after reading about it from our textbooks so many times. If you have though Giant's stuff was cheap, check this out. They really pushed prices to the minimal.

One BBQ spring chicken for around SGD$2. There were lots of people queueing up for this.

We just bought some foodstuff and a set of long johns from here and went back to hotel as there wasnt anything that caught my eye.

The next day, after the usually fare for breakfast, we then bid farewell to Nanning, the capital of Guangxi and head for the airport.

Overall, i think i seen quite abit about China in this trip. Their rate of development was breathtaking, with new buildings completed every day in major cities. But the Chinese also need to improve on their mannerism and social graces. Spitting was one huge problem for them as well as smoking in air conditioned places. I believed with the speed of their economic development, they can afford to spent some resources to upgrade their toilets to make it more convenient for tourists.
